Lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation traps people in poverty. Their health suffers and the prospect of developing economically remains far out of reach. Poor sanitation is one of the world’s biggest killers
Our water project in Kisii county- Kenya provides access to clean, safe and reliable water by digging wells, boreholes, tanks for rainy harvesting, spring protections and other water sources. As a result, now women and girls can save time once spent trekking long distances fetching water and invest it in education and other livelihood/economic activities. A sister project is under development in Machakos county where the need is even greater.
We are also helping poor communities to build Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrines in school. They are equipped with ventilation pipes to get rid of the flies and smells. These are now very popular and very effective that local people have taken the initiative and built more in homesteads.
